YA versus MG

I struggle with this question. How do you distinguish a YA (young adult) book versus a MG (middle grade) book?

OK, off for a free soda while I contemplate it.

Funny you should ask. Editorial Anonymous tackles that issue in this post: http://editorialanonymous.blogspot.com/2007/10/ya-and-middle-grade-and-never-tween.html

He sums it up perfectly when he says, "A tween book can have flirting but not seduction; doubt but not depression.
It can have the bomb, but not the fuse."

Sorry for the too-long URL, by the way. I should learn how to do that tinyurl thing I keep seeing. Anyway, you'll see the post if you go to editorialanonymous.blogspot.com and scroll down a couple of entries.
