Spring Book Season Ahead and a Book Giveaway

Check out my post on The Spectacle on Technobabble (yes, inspired by Star Trek like so many other wonderful things in life).

It seems Spring is the season when authors begin to creep back out of their houses and get out in the world.

Take me for example. Two events this past Saturday.
The book signing at Blue Marble Java was a blast! (Love that I already got an email from someone who bought The Emerald Tablet, read it in a day, and loved it. Thank you!!!!!)

I also had the joy of being the selected author of the month for the Cedar Park Library Teen Book Club. I must say—these teen gals were super. So much fun. So full of life and energy. And very smart. I can't say enough good things about book clubs for kids. Really, one day I want to start one. Maybe at our elementary school.

Let's see. Fun author stuff coming up:

  • The super-fab Jody Feldman, author of The Gollywhopper Games will be in town this weekend.
  • SCBWI meeting in a couple weeks. Always a good time.
  • I'll be on BookRoast on March 10th! Don't worry—I'll remind the day before and that day so you can stop by.
  • It turns out R. L. LaFevers will be in town at BookPeople on March 22nd! I'm totally bringing my Theodosia books and heading over for a chance to meet her!
  • Of course April brings a joint signing at BookPeople with Kathi Appelt and Cynthia Leitich Smith. The sheer awesomeness of this joint signing speaks for itself.
  • I have four school visits set up for the Spring.

Now take all that awesomeness, mix in
  • a Cub Scout Campout
  • a First Communion
  • a visit from my mom
  • a trip to DisneyWorld (whoo hoo!)
and life is good.

How about you guys? Are fun author things happening for you this Spring?

In honor of the joys of Spring, I've decided to start doing a book giveaway every so often. No, I haven't set a plan of how often. And no, not The Emerald Tablet. At least not this time.

So I'll start today.
Leave a comment in the next week for a chance to win
The Book Of Nonsense by David Michael Slater

It's a fun book about a set of twins, a bookstore filled with awesome books, and of course a book with nonsense letters that change and appear and disappear. If you like fantasy books or know someone who does, this is a perfect book for you!
In David's words:
The book is ancient, ravaged, and full of utter nonsense.

Check out his website:

Comment before Monday, March 9th at 11:59 pm CT for your chance to win.

And have a great week!

The Book of the Map! And also a weird sort of vinyl-y green.

Hahaha... First post, I win!!

PJ Hoover said...

LOL, Miriam! I love the addition of the word vinyl. That is truly the sign of a good writer!

beth said...

Yup, that IS a weird sort of vinyl-y green!!

But what a cool concept for a book! I'd love to read it.

PJ Hoover said...

You would really enjoy it, Beth!

Lapillus said...

Oh my. That's the exact same green as my junior high graduation gown. *Shudder*

The color and the memories - oh my!

I guess that's my comment since the trivia questions have been answered!

It sounds like a great book and it looks like you have a fun spring lined up, PJ!

PJ Hoover said...

Thanks, Casey! I love Spring! I love any season change, really!

How cool to be selected as author of the month for a teen book club - congrats! You've got a First Communion coming up in your family?! So do we ... this next weekend is Braden's first communion! At his last class, they practiced how to receive communion ... first doing it by sipping grape juice from an individual cup ... then by intinction (and, with that, they had the kids dip the bread into actual wine). After the class, I told Braden he looked a little antsy up there ... he looked at me and said - with some concern - "It was the wine." :-)

Sounds like you have a fun spring ahead. :)

I'm looking forward to the release of SCREWBALL 2 - CHANGE UP. And some fun book signing at softball tournaments. :)

Happy Spring!

That book series sounds fun. I think it would be right down my alley and my daughter's (esp. hers).

PJ Hoover said...

Too funny, Kelly! I can see my son being worried about the wine also!

Screwball 2!!!! Whoo hoo, Keri! I'll look forward to getting my own copy!

It's a really great book, Lois! Fun. Adventure. Fantasy. All good stuff!

Thanks for visiting!

Looks like you have a fun Spring ahead. My Spring fun is sending out more queries, and working on my two WIPs.

Sounds like a great Spring, Mary! I'm sure you'll have a blast! Good luck!

Yep, creeping out of my house! I'm thinking that I will blogging less and less as the weather gets warmer.

Sounds like my husband would like that book a lot!

Congratz on being author of the month.

I'm, umm ..., sure you'll receive the same level of respect and appreciation on the Cub Scout campout. I'm helping a friend take a group of ~10 over to Dinosaur Valley this Saturday, but it's only a day trip. Cub Scouts campouts are one night, right?

You do have a fun spring ahead of you! I'm so looking forward to it, too! (Mostly I'm just sick of winter cold!)

PJ Hoover said...

It's a great book, Michelle! And yes, creep out of the house!

Thanks, Dan! Yes, one night. But thankfully there are s'mores to make everything better.

I love the warmer weather, Kelly! So glad I moved South!

Thanks for visiting, everyone!

I crept out of the house today because it was so warm but kept expecting sudden cold and snowfall. I'm finding it hard to believe that spring is coming.

This book sounds awesome.
