Five on a Monday

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

1) Mine started off with this fabulous review for THE EMERALD TABLET from Becky's Book Reviews. My favorite line from the review happens to be the first line:
"I loved this one."
This right here puts a big, huge smile on my face!

2) Love this photo of the peacock outside the Laguna Gloria Art Museum here in Austin where I've been writing the last few weeks. Sadly, art camp is over, so until the school year starts, there will be no more Laguna Gloria for me. But for all you Austinites, totally put this on the list of hot writing spots.

3) I've been having this huge urge to reread some Neil Stephenson, and since I listened on audiobook the first time around, I ordered myself Cryptonomicon the other night. I loved this book. So much I want to love it again!

4) Thanks to Jim at Haunts of a Children's Writer, I was inspired to write a synopsis for a couple of my books in limerick form. Okay, on the spot right now, but here's one for THE EMERALD TABLET:

Benjamin's powers come from his brain.
Telekinesis is a bit of a drain.
He needs to find three keys.
His world is under the seas.
And he thought summer school would be mundane.

Yeah, well, like I said, on the spot here.

5) Progress on my new WIP is going well! I think I'm around 25K words. I'm at the point where the story is starting to tell itself which I love! I hope everyone's writing is going great!

Have a great week!

Woo-hoo, what a sparkling review! Congratulations.
As for limericks, someone once suggested that all writers should start each day writing a limerick to loosen things up...I never followed through on that advice, but it could be fun. Certainly good to face the world with a smile. Love the line: Telekinesis is a bit of a drain.

wow, I'm impressed :) I love limericks and often write them for friends birthdays or whatever. How very fun.

and congrats on the 25k words. that is a magical part of the writing, isn't it? when it starts to really fall into form.

Thanks, Jim! I loved your final limerick!

Thanks, Tricia! I love the limerick a day idea. It really is fun and does loosen up the mind. I'm going to give this a try!

I love that stage of the writing, Tess! It's like the story starts to tell itself. And as long as I know I'll revise it, I'm great with that!

Thanks for visiting!

First of all, my son must have checked my blog today, because he said excitedly, "MOM! PJ HOOVER left a comment on your blog! PJ HOOVER!" :) So thank you for making my son think his mom is cool today!
I love limericks, good one!

Fun limerick!
I like Tricia's start the day with a limerick writing exercise. I'll bet that does loosen things up!

Thanks, Adrienne! I love the limerick idea!

I will post my limerick in my office, Christina! Great idea! If nothing else, it will amuse me.

Thanks, Lisa! I'm so glad everything is going so well for you!

Thanks, Kelly! I loved my writing spot!

Oh, can you post it, Corey??? A wedding invite limerick is perfect!

Thanks, BJ! And so much fun to do, too!

The peacocks were hilarious, Christy! They just can right up to me. So unique!

I kept looking for feathers, Miriam, but no luck. I think the ground care people picked them up and collected them.

Thanks, Danyelle! I need so more camp time so I can get a bit more writing done!

Thanks for visiting, everyone!

That limerick is awesome!

I love Snow Crash with the fire of a thousand suns, but I could not make myself finish Cryptonomicon. Maybe I'll have to try it again.

PJ Hoover said...

I loved Snow Crash and Diamond Age, Carrie, but Cryptonomicon was my favorite.

PJ Hoover said...

Thanks, Jason! Another 25K would be nice :)

PJ, all of that sounds great! I'll put that spot on my list of writing dream places!

I love your limerick. It's perfect! And great job on your progress! I just passed 35k on my rewrite of Monarch. I was stuck there in the middle for a bit, but now it's going better. It's so wonderful when things just start clicking.

PJ Hoover said...

Michelle, we'd have a great time writing there together!
Whoo hoo on your rewrite! That is awesome!

Lenore said...

I think it a very creative limerick. And love the peacock photo. We saw a white peacock in Lisbon. I'll have to dig out the picture.

PJ Hoover said...

Thanks, Lenore! My daughter's preschool had a white peacock (I think) and it flew away never to return. At least this is the story I'm managing to get.

Trisha Pearson said...

Beautiful peacock picture! And a great limerick for The Emerald Tablet, on the spot or not. What a cool idea! I'm glad your writing is going well. May it keep progressing!

PJ Hoover said...

Thanks, Trisha! And the same right back at you!

PJ, I FINALLY ordered a copy of your book, and it came today. It is a very nice-looking book (I love pretty books). Can't wait to read it! My Daughter #2 is reading it before me because I'm in the middle of another book now. I DID read the first two chapters though. So far so good!

Now if I could only get you to sign it for me. :-)
