Last week I was thrilled to be featured on the Figment blog in a back-to-school special! And because vlogging can be so much fun, here's what I came up with.
Great suggestions. Oddly, I loved many of the classics. I just had a hard time interpreting them the way the teacher said I was supposed to. I saw things in different way.
I loved BRAVE NEW WORLD...1984, too! :) Have you heard about the BEOWULF retelling coming out in 2012, PEACEWEAVER by Rebecca Barnhouse, up on NetGalley atm?
Homer, yay! :) I liked OEDIPUS REX & ANTIGONE as well.
My four favorite books that I first read in school are TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD by Harper Lee, THE GIVER by Lois Lowry, THE WOMAN IN WHITE by Wilkie Collins, and...mmm...I'm having trouble choosing just ONE book by Oscar Wilde...!

Hey Angela, LOL! I know exactly what you mean. I was always stunned when I learned "deep meanings" behind stories.
I just requested it, Bonnie! Thanks for the rec. And THE GIVER was certainly edgy for the young crowd. I'm still surprised it's a Newbery.
Great selections, PJ! Also: you're funny.
I love three of those, but I've never read Oedipus Rex. I do know the legend though, and what Freud did with it.
Huxley is one of my favorite writers. The Doors of Perception is another great one.
Thanks, Matthew! I almost pulled out my copy of the Doors of Perception when I mentioned Brave New World. :)
LOL! This was great. Who knew a writer could be so entertaining to watch? Good job, PJ!
Thanks, Cheri! I get very passionate when I talk about The Odyssey :)
